My husband and I are both connoisseurs of good food. We look for it, travel for it and critique the food on the table as we eat. During our stay in Cologne, we were recommended to go to a Persian restaurant named Sadaf.
The restaurant is located in a very cosy neighbourhood. We took the outside seats to enjoy the good weather. We ordered their aubergine starters Kashke Bademjoon and Mirza Ghasemi and for the main we ordered Kebabs. The lamb chunks were super tender and melted in our mouths and we really enjoyed the starters.
However the portions were really small for a Persian restaurant and the common Iranian standards (picture shows dish for two persons). We really wished there was more bread to rub our plates clean. Taste of Persia in Holland set the bars too high for us. Their portions are humongous and their kebabs taste more like home.
Another point I have to give Sadaf is the German impossibility of paying by card. It is of course the case in most restaurants in Germany but it was inconvenient to run around to look for an ATM machine right after a Persian dinner. A restaurant that aims for an international crowd should provide the pin service.
But all and all, we enjoyed our food hence the shortcomings.
Although small portions, Sadaf has a nice variety of Iranian-inspired Middle Eastern dishes and reasonably priced. This visit was on own initiative without invitation or payment by the restaurant.
Nobel Konditorei is a cosy bakery shop with lots of Iranain sweets. It was very convenient for us to find the place because we had our dinner in Sadaf restaurant right next to it. Just grab your cookies, order your Persian cardamom and cinnamon tea, close your eyes, one bite into the cookie, one sip of the tea and you are back in Iran.
The coconut cookies were absolutely amazing. They were soft and fresh. The The Napoleon pastry was crunchy and the cream puffs were so creamy and they melted in our mouths. The staff was nice and friendly and in the background you could hear some Persian gossip which was in perfect harmony with the atmosphere and made it more Iranain.
